Tall tank prob..
Do low-light tall plants exist? I have a 45 gallon tall and am about to install a 65 watt mogul base fuorescent light (lights of america)... which only gives my tank about 1.44 watts per gallon... any thoughts? I have a tall fake plant.. just not big into fake plants and all... just wanted something to occupy the top space of the tank... currently I only will have Java Ferns in there (but they don't get too tall), two not so tall pieces of driftwood, and sand... this is a Dojo Loach tank. Thanks!

I read a post, I think it was by TankGirl, where she suggested building terraces in a tall tank with rocks and then planting on top of the terraces. That way you could provide some caves for your loaches as well as get the plants up higher - closer to the lights and filling up some of that space. It might look really cool.

Terraces/Caves are definitely an option (as was recommended to me for my 120gal XH)...and I'm sure your loaches would love them.
Also, the Aponogeton spp. tends to do well in low light (or at the least, it has for me). I've had no trouble growing them to the top of my old 55gals with only a single 40 watt bulb and a moderate to low fish load (no added fert)...All varieties were flowering within a month. |

No need if you buy anacharis. These thrive in pretty much any light conditions, and grow over 2 feet tall--quickly. Just make sure you have a failsafe way of anchoring them. I found their tendency to de-bunch infuriating--don't have them any more!
But there's no doubt that they a) thrive in relatively low light and b) grow really tall! Mine were about 2.5 feet when I took them out of my tank.
