Tank stocking question

I have a 40 gal hex front tank that is cycling right now. I have 2 filters in it right now. A 20 gal biowheel from my old tank and a 60 gal tetra filter. This will also be a planted aquarium as well.

I wanted to know when I'm stocking the tank if I can stock it for what the filters can support(closer to the 80 gal or around the 40 gal for the tank size.

I'd be cautious and stock based on the 40-gallon size. manufacturers tend to be generous about the tank sizes their filters support, and a hex is (as I recall) a taller tank with less surface area for oxygen exchange.
