My tap water's pH is around 8, and as a result so is my tank. Is this bad for my fish and should I buy an additive to get it down to 7?

Stability is more important than being at 7. For most fish, 8 should be fine. I dare not say all, because if I do, someone will bring up one that can't handle it that I didn't know of. You should be perfectly fine at 8.

7-8 is good for most fish i would say. what fish do youhave?

Don't freak out but it's a bit of a hodgepodge in my 29 gallon. 2 red wag swordtails, 1 lyretail swordtail, 1 Cory, 1 betta, 1 guppy, 1 African clawed frog, 1 mystery snail. Like I said, I like the variety.

My only suggestion as far as your stock goes is I would up the cories to atleast 4. Cories are social fish and need their own kind.
