Hello all:

we have a 10 gal tank and had 5 Gold Skirt Tetras in it. Two have died in the last number of weeks so we thought we would add a couple of fish. LFS said that Black skirt tetras were compatible with other tetras. We got two. they look the same as the gold skirt except in color.

Last night (first evening in the tank) the black skirts were chasing the gold skirts around. Kind of charging at them, not chasing perpetually around the tank but a number of short little runs.

Is this aggressive behavior that will hurt our original Gold skirts? Will it even out? Should we pull out the Black skirts and give them away or will all turn out okay in the end?

thanks for your advice

Black Skirt tetras can be a little aggressive. Are they the same size?

Hi Mike:

thanks for your reply. The black skirts are smaller than two of the gold skirts and about the same size as the other one. they did seem to charge the largest one less. By aggressive, do you mean that they will harm the others if kept in this situation?

thanks

Tetras

I just meant that they do chase others around sometimes. They prefer to be in groups which may help.

Goldskirt Tetras and Black skirt are pretty much the same and require the same conditions. They are generally easy to care for with regular PWC.

Be careful not to overstolk. They get about 2". If you get different community fish they should be ok, however I would get fish of comparable size.
