I have 3 threadfin rainbows in my 36 gallon and I want to get around 3 more because they are schooling fish. Right now, I have 1 male and 2 females.

If I get more is it better to keep the 1:2 male to female ratio? Or is it okay to get more males than females (for display purposes)? I am mainly concerned about aggression toward females.

Also will sparring males actually hurt each other? :thanks:

If you want to breed them, I'd go with a 1:2 (or 1:3) ratio. If you want them for display only, I'd suggest possibly all males.

I really would love to breed them, maybe I will get mainly males and if I want to breed them isolate a male with 2/3 females in my 10 gallon. Thanks for the input. Have you had any experience breeding threadfins or species like them?

Haven't raised fry from them yet, but I have watched them spawn a few times. If you have the tank available, isolating a conditioned pair or trio and collecting eggs is realistic.
