Took in some orphaned fish, need opinions.

They'll do fine with that substrate. You need to give them time to acclimate. As I said earlier, the more kuhlis the better. The fewer you have, the less of their typical behavior you'll see.

Unfortunately the pleco (hillstream loach ) died. Found him dead this morning. I think the temperature of the tank was to high for him.
 
Kinda depresses he died. I tried to get the tank just right for him. Had the extra current and oxygenation, had food for him. I just didn't have the info about the temp. They like cooler water & my tank stays at 78*. :(
