What is the best way to do this?

I have already started, by putting it in a saucepan and boiling it for 1.5 hours. (saucepan is now stained ) and now I leave it soaking in bucket, and change water every 24 hours. The water keeps turning brown, like dark tea.
Am I doing it correctly? Is there anything else I should be doing?
And how long roughly does it take for brown tannins to stop coming out?

thanks.

Keep doing what you are already doing. Eventually you will notice only a little/no tannis and then it should be ready to go in your tank. As far as the amount of time it will take, it depends on the piece of driftwood. I had one piece that leeched a lot. A different piece barely leeched at all.
