When I turn the lights off in my tank, The room is pitch black, is that okay?

Lots of people put their lights on timers so the fish have a natural night/day cycle. They need rest too!

Hello Bizz...

I was told that fish do best in if they're given an environment that resembles dusk instead of darkness. I have my tank lights on timers, but have a small night light that comes on when the tank lights go out. The night light stays on until the tank lights come on. Don't know if the fish like it or not, they've never said.

Yeah if you can get them on a more natural schedule that would be good. The tank I have now I tried for the first time setting up right by a window with no background so they can get the natural sunlight. I figure that might be better for them. It's been going good for 8 months. I only turn the tank light on for 3 to four hours.
