Upgrading filtration to Cannister

Hello all:

I have a 75g Mbuna tank that is running 2 Emperor 400's. I recently acred a Rena XP3 Cannsiter filter and am in the process of hooking it up to run in parallel with the current filters.

My questions are these:
1) How long should I wait before removing the Emperors from the tank?
2) Should I only remove one Emperor at a time, or can both come off at the same time while watching the test kits over a few days?

Thanks for the help.

You'll have a ton of current running in the tank with all three running. You could opt for any of the following:

1. Take some of the media from the emperor and put it in the Rena. This will allow you to remove one immediately.

2. Take off one of the emperor's and run the Rena w/one emperor for two weeks.

Also, since this is more about the changing of the filtration and not cichlids, I'm moving this to General Discussion.

I would recommed doing as JC's first suggestion. Also with cichlids I would keep one HOB with the cannister for your size of tank. So I would remove only one in total.
