Hi, ive indtalled my new canister filter (with old one still running) it has a built in uv light and im just confused on when to use it. Friends have said just when the waters cloudy but my water never gets cloudy as I maintain my tank as best as I can.

Could anyone tell me exactly what the uv does and when to use it.

Thanks

I have read that you can run it 8 hours a day or when you have problems. Like green water, diatoms or parasites. No need to run it 24/7. You can if you want.

Yeah they are mainly used to treat infections like ich, or water problems like free floating algae.

Depending on your taste you can leave it on 24/7 and it wont harm anything and keep the water free from algae, bacteria and parasites. Or simply turn it on of you ever have an issue. Personal choice really.
