wal-mart usually has lots of tetras/cories, both tetras and cories like to be kept in groups (5+ for smaller tetras 3+ for cories).
fish not to get, and will outgrow the 30: silver dollars oscars knifefish peacock/tiretrack eels (kuhli loaches are ok) clown loaches african cichlids (south american are good, but find out how big they get, some stay large, some stay tiny)

Be picky about your fish. Your local WalMart may be different, but mine does not have the best care for the fish. They may not like you, but don't settle for fish that aren't going to make it. Good luck purchasing!

Of that list, hc, I have only ever seen Oscar's at my Wal-Mart.
Malnourished and neglected is an understatement. I wouldn't touch wal-mart fish with a stick. Unless it was a stick that reached over to South America and Africa, with a net on the end of it. |

I just bought some mollies and platys from Walmart. They are doing fine. The Walmart I go to is far better than the local Petland. Walmart seems to really know about the fish and they have healthier fish than my LFS. But that is in my area I know all areas are different.
Tetras, swordtails, mollies, platys, cory cat, giant danios are all in my community tank and doing well. |

If you have other things in the tank, the Rainbowfish might not have enough room in the tank to swim. They're quite active.
