Is there a way to keep water hard?

I haven't been able to find any water hardness testing equipment, and I'd like to know how to go about keeping water hard?

If you can't find kH/gH tests, you can order them online ( www.bigals.com does carry them and at a decent price). There are a number of ways to harden water, although I wouldn't recommend adding chemicals. I suggest starting here to gain a better understanding of hardness and pH, and how they are linked: http://faq.thekrib.com/begin-chem.html

That is a great link to have, so be sure and bookmark it, WhiteAngel. I have successfully hardened my water for Africans with crushed coral in the substrate, but I have medium hard water anyway. Are you keeping Africans?

Another thing, when you get your test kits avoid the paper dip strip type, because IME they are inaccurate.
