Keep a good aquarium (heat, water changes, [acronym:10f6cc9efb="power head or Measure of the concentration of hydrogen ions, depending on context"]ph[/acronym:10f6cc9efb], etc.) and feed a varied diet. Thats it, no secret pill.

The only thing I would add is make sure that it is the appropriate size aquarium for the type of fish.

I'm with tony.... keep a good aquarium. Water quality may be the most key to ensure a fish lives long enough to reach a mature size. Only after a stable water quality is obtained can you help it reach the mature size. Face it, a juvenile fish in poor water quality will never (unless it's very hardy) live long enough to reach full size, no matter how hard you try. There's no such thing as Miracle-Gro for fish, as far as I know.

BEEF HEART! that stuff is like fish steroids! I feed it once a week to my convict cichlids and they are huge now.
