I've tried feeding my marbled hatchetfish flakefood, pellets, live foods and frozen foods. I thought they like to eat meaty foods but they always avoid the live and frozen foods. However, whenever I feed them flakefood and pellets, they always dash for it lol and eat as much as they can. Why is this? I feed them ants sometimes but they can't swallow them so they spit them out

You could just give a variety of flakes and pellets to keep them interested. You can chop the ants in half and they should be able to eat them then. The fruit flies are a good idea, also daphnia works well.

Basically gnats, you can find cultures of them and accessories for sale Google wingless fruit fly culture, they're commonly used for feeding dart frogs and baby lizards. Wingless actually have wings but can't fly, so they're easier to work with.
