I like it, I just got a 10 gallon on Freecycle I was going to use for a sump or Extra QT tank but your set up is cool, so I might go colorful style like that for a change in the QT tank....

I think a 29 gallon is way to small for those cichlids. Most articles I have read say to have at least 55 gallons for one and 75 gallons for two or more.
 
The convict will be fine in a tank that size imo but the jack dempseys will get too big.
