So I noticed that my nitrates are a little higher than usual as I missed a weekly pwc. However, I have a Boseman rainbow that has always had a little flap of skin under his chin. I have seen this in many posts and don't believe it is colomnaris as it never gets worse. So that being said, since I let the nitrates get a little higher he no longer has the skin under the chin. It looks completely renewed. Im wondering if these fish prefer a harsher nitrate level as ridiculous as that sounds.

Any thoughts or experience?

I believe this was a coincidence that the 'flap' of skin is no longer there & your nitrate levels are irrelevant to its disappearance. No fish 'prefers' a high nitrate level. Please read the link for a more detailed explanation of the effects of high nitrates on fish.

Thanks. I know about the effects. Believe me, I would never let the levels get dangerous.
