Carbon is the black granular stuff that is in your filtration. How to remove it will depend on what type of filter you have.

The black granular stuff?
Do you mean the black sponge?

Not the sponge. It should be seperate from the sponge. Normally I see it in a blue cartridge or a white one. I'm not farmiliar with the filter so I can't be more specific, sorry.

Filstar makes black "carbon" sponges - they look like a regular sponge but they are solid black and impregnated with carbon - that is what you should remove. You can replace it with filter floss of an approximately equal amount, or a regular white sponge of the same size.

Does your filter have a basket with black granules? If so, that is carbon, and the granules need to be removed.
You also might have a black sponge, which, at least in the US, is impregnated with carbon, so that ought to be removed. [acronym:0aac88b14a="Hope this helps (or) Happy to help"]HTH[/acronym:0aac88b14a]

My filter doesnt have any granules what so ever.
All it has is a black sponge and 2 white plastic tubes inside the sponge that click together.
