Females are much larger close to 1.5-2". Males stay an inch and under. When the female is inseminated she has a bright green area on her back. That's the eggs getting ready. Soon they will drop to her leg area and she'll carry them there till she's ready to let them go. They call it berried. Java moss is ideal because they will hide the eggs. Other fish and the shrimp will eat their eggs.
