Ok, so this shows up in my tank out of nowhere. It appears to be some sort of egg sac, but this tank only houses goldfish, asian filter shrimp and nerite snails. So I'm puzzled? What do you think....

Those look like snail clutches to me! I am assuming they were above the waterline? Kept them moist but not wet and in a few weeks you will have tiny snails hatching.

It looks exactly like a "mystery snail" (Pomacea bridgesii) egg clutch to me. If it was above the water line, that's what it is.

Hmm...take a closer look at yer snails. I think you have an apple snail in there! Nerites lay the eggs underwater, and I think separately rather than in a clutch.

ewwwwww - vile!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL Corn on the cob was exactly what came to mind for me as well!

Perhaps the snails do explain it. I knew it couldn't be the nerites since I've watched them lay eggs one at a time on the glass before, plus this was much too big to have come from them. But, I used to have 2 apple snails in this tank. They both died a few weeks ago due to a nasty incident involving being sucked into my filter intake. They must have left this little package before they died. It must have been up in the cover where I couldn't see it all this time and recently let go and fell into the tank.
