What to do with a 10gall? *Edit* What to breed in a 10gall?
Anyone have any ideas? I will *hopefully* be upgrading to a 20 long in the next week or two, (have to get the $$$ and build the stand) and am just thinking what to do with the 10gall (im not sure my parents will let me keep it up, but IF they do...)
here is a list of what I dont want to do, LOL maybe in the process of typing this I will think of something no tetras, rasboras, danios, minnow's, playties, mollies, guppies, and I dont want it to be a reall "high tech" either, no live plants..... well, at least none that require light (which I dont know of any that requres NONE) it will prob. be open top, ... I also thought about (or just thought of) I would like to breed some fish (actually lets change this post, as that would be my best way of getting my parents to let me keep it, because it could be used for biology Rams any small cichlid corries (panda's, or somthing along those lines, to cute) harlaquin rasbora congo tetra? apisto's/ kribs if I could get my hands on some! those and rams are both on the top of my list! Thanks in advance everyone!

Connect the two with large diameter PVC piping and let the fish swim between the two.

The question is, what do YOU want to breed?
You can breed a pair of German Blue Rams in a 10g. Probably wouldn't be able to keep any more than just those two. Talk to Lonebluewolf about breeding those. Cories - Those seem kind of hit or miss. Most of the spawning reports I have seen were just surprises. The owners never really attempted to breed them. Can't help you with the rest. Sorry. |

well I really like the idea of german blue's..... but any small cichlid (rams, apisto whatever) I think would be awesome!

I wouldn't try breeding cichlids in a 10G...not even dwarfs like rams or apistos. I'd go with a 20G min for these.
With a 10G, I know you said you're opposed to the idea, but I'd stick with small fish like tetra & co. Egg layers/scatterers might be the best bet. Apistos are harem breeders, so trying to breed them in a 10G would be a bit odd I would have thought: not enough space. Most mouthbrooders get quite aggressive when they're spawning/have spawned, so again a smaller space is not great. You could use the 10G for fry once they had spawned, to grow them out, but I wouldn't be putting adults in there to spawn. How about black neon tetra? They're quite a nice tetra and would suit a 10G breeding set up. HTH, best of luck with whatever you go with.

GBR's will be fine in a ten gallon tank. I would put only one spawning pair in there though, that means no other fish. Mine have spawned several times in a ten gallon tank. GBR's are one of the few dwarf cichlids that would do okay in a ten.
