It seems to be the general concencious that its my tiger barbs that are the problem in my tank. Evry fish i takl about introducing doesnt seem to go well with them. So my question is what do go with tiger barbs. Cos i love my tigers and dont want ot get rid of them. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

guoarmis(i always forget how to spell it) seem to go well, nothing with big fins cuz tiger barbs are definetly fine nippers, possibly some semi-aggressive fish, [acronym:2211a38273="Chinese Algae Eater"]CAE[/acronym:2211a38273] or pleco for the bottom, Hatchet Fish for the top, get some other types of barbs....it all depends on size and what you like...good luck!!

We just recently added Tiger Barbs to our aquarium. If you add four to six they will tend to only pick on each other.
The Bala's do fine with them. They have started to get a little too big for the tiger barbs to pick a fight with. And the angels will get pretty agressive with them if they try anything too. Despite the long fins that Angel Fish have, the angels tend to be the bullies of the tank anyways. So they pretty much hold their own. And the Tigers won't even dare nip at their fins. I think the key is to have 4 to 6 barbs in there and to have other fish that will "man-up" to them.

I love tiger barbs too - they're so colorful and never sit still.
Tiger barbs have a reputation as nasty fin nippers. I think the key to avoiding this is to keep a large group (at least 8 - 10). That way, they are so busy squabbling amongst themselves that they pretty much leave other fish alone. What to keep with tiger barbs? Pretty much any other kind of barb and large tetra. Check out my sig. What size tank do you have? |

At the moment i have a 20g with,
6 green tiger barbs 3 Angels (atleast 2 of the angels are going so noone tell me im overstocked please) 2 Swordtails 1 Redfinned shark Im possibly going to give the last angel to a friend and maybe the swordtails too. So i just wondered what to get with the barbs. Mine are in a goroup of 6 and really do just squabble amongst themselves. Even though they have this fin nipping reputatio ive never seen them go for another fish. he gouramis sound a good idea and if i dont have my angel or swordtail i may purchase a few. Thanks for the thoughts guys. Are there any barbs that dont do best in a large group?

I keep a school of zebra danios and a school of corys with my tiger barbs and have not had any problems. As most have posted, the tigers are too busy working out dominance issues amongst themselves to bother anyone else.

I remember my Dad had 3 tiger barbs, always fin nipping, so he got mad at them one day and threw an exodon in the tank with them. Everything was fine and the exodon left them alone till one of them decided to play fin nip. They were chased around and around till my Dad had to take the exodon out of the tank. You have a tough decision as to what else to put in there, perhaps just more barbs of different colors.

They seem to leave Plecos alone, thats really the only fish I've kept them with. I'm sure there are others though. I had to move my Sabre Tooth Baracuda into my tiger barb tank because of ich once years ago and they seemed to get along fine, except I would lose a tiger barb a day
