What will keep my snail shells from turning white?

What will help the snails, a higher gh or kh? More calcium?

The more calcium the better. Also the higher you can maintain your PH the better. I maintain the PH at 7.2 for my snails. It isnt very hard for me though as my tap is relatively hard and a stable 7.2. I would put some crushed coral down to bring up the PH if your tap is too low as i dont trust the PH up type chems.

would crushed coral in the filter box do the trick? I have more than a few snails as well, and the shells are deterirating on some of em.
