Whats better....

I'm going to be saving over the next 3-6 months for a new tank. I don't know what I'm going to put in it, but I would like to have the opinion of you all, because you all have helped me so much so far. I'm looking into a 300 [acronym:fac64503b4="Gallon"]gal[/acronym:fac64503b4] wide or 280 gallon wide. I like the 280 gallon wide because of the fact that it is 72"x36"x25" LxWxH. The 300 [acronym:fac64503b4="Gallon"]gal[/acronym:fac64503b4] is 96"x30"x25" LxWxH... I'm still thinking large cichlids. lol Anyway They are both the same price at $850 each. So.... what do you all think?

Well for the same price I would definitely buy the bigger one! You have to keep in mind the weight of the tank (and your floor construction) and what it will cost to get adequate filtration, light, more gravel, more decoration, a bigger stand. If that is no problem, get the bigger one!

I'm not a specialist about large cichlids, so others will have to help you there .

will you have any fish over 30 inches? If not, get the 300 gallon. Wish I could do that

I might even build a plywood tank. Not really sure yet... I'm going to go to a place around here that builds custom aquariums on my next day off. They have done a lot of great stuff. I'll let you all know

Okay so I got an e-mail back today and an Acrylic 280gallon wide is 72Lx36Wx25H. It's $600 and will be $290 to ship... It's cheaper than getting the glass. Sounds really good right now. Not sure what I would stock it with though... I have plenty of time to think, because it'll be about 3 months before i save up the money. Any ideas would be great. lol I'm thinking a couple of larger cannisters and a sump filtration will be how I filter it. Perhaps I'll ask them to drill it, but I think that's a couple hundred $$$ more. Might as well since im going all out right? Now to make a way to keep the kids from touching it and scratchin the acrylic. lol

All I can say, be careful with that company. I've got a small tank (70gal) from them, which I went to get myself, but I've heard a lot of bad things in this forum. Let's say they are not really friendly anymore if you have any problems with your tank. You can look at the product review section or search for "glasscages".
