Books say 75 for most generics like guppies and such. In the past, mine have thrived at around 68. I'm just curious.

Most people on here will tell you 78 degrees is fine for most freshwater fish. I keep my two community tanks at 78 and my african cichlids at about 81, but they are fine at 78-82.

Most of the fish do best between 76ºF-79ºF, but since there are so many different fish with different requirements, there is no one 'ideal' temperature.

I keep my tanks set at between 75 and 80 degrees depending on what species of fish inhabit them. I usually do some checking at www.fishprofiles.com and elsewhere to see what conditions are best. What types of fish do you have?
