Unless you have moved them into brackish water or salt water I don't think he or she is trying to lay an egg as Amano shrimp only breed in salt or brackish water I am pretty sure. He is probably molting which would be neat to see since I have never seen them actually do it. That is my input I'm not a professional but I do recall reading that they need salty water to breed.
