lol! The Case of the Missing Betta (A Mystery Most Strange). Sounds like you need Sherlock or Poirot to help.

Seriously though, fish do decay very rapidly in tanks if they're not found so quickly. Do you have lots of nooks and crannies where it might have been (and sadly died perhaps?). Have you experienced any algae blooms or spikes in ammonia levels within the tank without explanation? Also, I'm guessing since you already looked on the carpets everywhere you've checked for any gaps or spaces in the tank hood where the crazy little things might have decided to explore via leaping?!

What else do you have in the tank? Any likely culprits?

:S Hope you can solve the riddle!

A similar thing happened to one of my females, i tore apart my tank looking for her, when i was sure she was dead and eated, i stopped looking. A few days later i saw her and she had popeye. Explain that one Hope you find her, best of luck.(and i really hope she is alive, even though the chances look slim)

I pulled out EVERYTHING on the missing CAE ....I have no idea where River went @___@ And no I haven't had any ammonia or algae blooms in my tank ....I have... other bettas, mollies, cory catfish, and ADFs lol but i put her back in after attempting to breed her and then she just like...vanished a few days later and I was feeding my fish the other day going ....Wait...Where's River? .....Now that I think of it, I havent seen her in days....uh oh...

I just did a top off and PWC and my tank's a little cloudy now but I think that's more natural than a dead fish x.x lol

do you have an undergravel filter? when i was younger i had a few fish that did whatever it took to get themselves underneath the plate, as well as a few who got sucked up my HOB filter. Just a few places in case you might have overlooked em in a hurry

i had something even weird happen.
I went to check on all my fish before i was to move them the next morning. they were all accounted for... well the next day i did a catch of every fish. but one of my huge loaches were missing. :O only him. we took everything out Everything except the gravel.. We grabbed flashlights and checked all the ortaments nothing was in there at all. :O we moved the tank. NO BODYS. i do have cichlids but they dont eat other fish. they are all peaceful..
we checked everywhere. i miss my loach.

I hate when this happens! Surely one of the great mysteries of the hobby.
Any other pets?

I had a wild species of betta jump out and my dog ate it. I have also had a cat scoop up and eat a danio (or three) out of the tank.

If you have snails or other scavengers in the tank, it is quite likely that they've cleaned up the evidence for you.
