Why don't we hear more about gudgeons?

Ran across a website where someone had a few photos of their peacock gudgeon...wow, what a stunningly beautiful fish.

Why don't we hear more about these? I have researched them a bit, seems they are fabulously colorful, rather tolerant of a variety of water conditions, and many stay quite small (1-2"), which it seems would make them perfect for many small to medium sized aquariums.

Yet I have never seen one in any of the 6 [acronym:45a2e08f5a="Local Fish Store"]lfs[/acronym:45a2e08f5a]'s I regularly check. Are they ultra-aggressive? Finicky about food? Just plain rare and expensive? Anyone know?

Well, I searched for them on yahoo and went to a site that says this about them: "imagine a fish that has stunning colors, isn't aggressive, is easy to keep, is easy to breed, doesn't cost a lot"
So I really don't know why it doesn't seem to be in any pet stores.

Great find. I searched yahoo as well and found some sites that sell them, but for a hefty price. Seems as though they are still rare, but I bet that will change soon.

I guess it must have been an old post then, that quote I got.
But those Peacock Gudgeon aren't really that much there, it's only like 5.33 each, it's 6 of them for that $32 price.
