For a 55 gallon with LR, is that something I will need? How much are you asking?

Yes, you will need a skimmer if you plan to go reef. Ezy said the he/she (not sure, don't wanna offend) has a complete set up. I'm guessing that that also includes a skimmer.

Thanks! I am exchanging messages with ezy,too. Trying to see what I need. Do skimmers have different sizes? by recommended brands, or ones to avoid?

Ones to avoid in my opinion are the coralife super skimmers, marineland skimmers, and the seaclones. There are many different sizes and brands. Try to get your hands on an octopus skimmer.
