Would and aquaclear 20 be fine for this or should I get a 30? Or anything you would recommend instead of aquaclear.

Either of those would be more than sufficient but I suggest using a piece or sponge or a clean piece of pantyhose around the intake so that no shrimp or shrimplettes get sucked up.

Yeah I plan on putting a sponge over the intake whatever way I end up going. Thanks!

If it will have shrimp only, I'd suggest a sponge filter. I agree with DF about if you use the HOBs. Either would work IMO.

i say go for aquaclear 30.
aquaclear is probably the best brand for a HOB IMO! :)

I recommend getting a Zoomed reptofilter 501. Works great and clean!

I hooked up 2 of them for my 15 gallons together to increase biofiltration capacity.
