assassin snails

I have a 75 gal tank that I have planted. I have 2 mystery snails that I LOVE. Well I notice 2 small pond snails hanging out on a plant. I want to get some assassin snails but I'm afraid for my mystery snails. They are about the size of a fifty cent coin. Does anyone know if the assassin snails will kill my mystery snails?

Yep, if you only get one assassin the mysteries will probably be ok. If you get 5 assassins? They will gang up on the mystery and kill it dead..

You can always set up another tank for mystery snails and some new fish.
If you want to keep the pond snails at bay, be very careful not to overfeed the tank. No food for snails = fewer snails. You can also try things like putting in some lettuce or blanched zucchini and then collecting it again once it is filled with snails. It isn't perfect, but it will get rid of some. Pond snails really don't hurt anything. I just leave them be. Your tank though. Up to you if you want to try and remove them. It can be an uphill battle though.

Assassin snails reproduce like crazy too right? So instead of pond snails you'll end up with a million assassins.

Not as much as ponds, but yah, if there is extra food they will make a colony.. i find them beneficial as a clean up crew though.m

IME, only if there is an abundance of live snails to munch on. Also there has to be a male snail and a female present. Assassins are not hermaphrodites. Finally, they reproduce at half the rate of pond snails. So if you see 50 P. snails in a month, expect < 20-25.

I am not surprised. If the water conditions or available food [protein rich diet] is not to their liking or available, breeding will be severely limited.
