I've got a tiny aquaponics in the basement during the winter. (will be move the plants/tilapia outside to a 300~ gallon setup when it warms up outside)

Setup is as follows:
2xTanks: 75 and 30 connected with a u-syphon
*The 75 have a few tilapia 6x 3 inchers and 1x 6~ incher
*The 30 gallon has nothing but a heater and a u-syphon

*water is feed from the larger tank to the smaller one via a 5~ gallon bucket sponge filter and then u-syphoned back into the larger one.

*water temp is kept at 78-80 degrees fahrenheit
*I dump the bucket filter about once a week and the plants should filter out the rest

But some poo/slime end up in the smaller tank can freshwater shrimp live off of that alone? Though about putting some cheap pet store shrimp (and maybe a few guppies?) in the smaller tank.

I think shrimp need a lil more than slime/poo. occassional extra fish foos pellets etc will help fill in nutrient deficiencies.
