I have a heavily planted community tank and I have been seeing these guys for the past couple months. But this was my first chance to catch one. Whenever I see these guys they are always this size. The photo doesn't show it's legs but it has legs similar to shrimp. What is this? Is it harmful to plants or fish? Where did it come from?ImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1421472504.614411.jpg

I'm no expert on hitchhikers, but that looks like a scud to me. If so, I know they're scavengers and that some people keep them to offer as live fish food. I've seen them on Aquabid a time or two. As for if they are a danger to plants...that I don't know. Hopefully someone with a little more knowledge on the subject can chime in!

Not harmful to plants. I've read about them snacking on moss but that's about it.
