Question about presence of bacterial colonies in RCS tank

I read that I will need snails to keep the bacterial colonies alive, since shrimp have almost no bioload. Do I need snails? How do you take care of snails? (If I need them)

Who say's that you can't have more than one tank? Just get one more... just one...

I'll bet there are lots of people who have RCS tanks with no other inhabitants. I happen to also keep assassin snails and corys with mine, so of course have a larger bioload.

Snails are pretty easy keepers, depending on the species. Some need algae, some will eat your plants, some like my assassins need live food. I put part of a cuttle bone into those tanks where I have snails to supplement the calcium they need for their shells.

Everywhere. random searches through the forums, PMs, chat room. I remember that Maxwellag suggested it in the chat room.

Ok, so I don't need snails? This will be a SOWLP tank. (That's an acronym
Shrimp
Only

Live
Plants)

Bacterial colonies grow/shrink according to conditions they are in. There's no magic minimum bioload to keep the nitrifiers around, small bioload = small bb colony.
