fruit fly trap

Im not proud to say I have a mild fruit fly issue these past few days. The good news is, owning a topless shrimp tank works well as a trap. Sweet revenge watching the RCS skim the surface for stuck, circling fruit flies. The little things you know:):brows:

Very nice Theresa! I love your pico and nano tanks.

I have some Neocaridina davidi var. 'Red Rili' now as well. Great looking shrimp!

Btw, also I finally bought some Barboides Gracilis from Rachael. They arrive tomorrow. So excited!

Thanks! I have B. gracilis in my red rili tank. Bought them in two groups, both from Rachel. Funny that quite a few of the shrimp are actually larger than the fish! Hope you like them!

Like your pic, and the shrimp and tank look awesome. Nice to see you show up, visit and share the tank!

Yeah, I need to get back in to posting. Kinda slacked off on the big tank (did a kitchen remodel this summer which made it hard to keep up on the regular cleaning schedule) so I'm trying to get it back into shape. The shrimp tank just got about a pound of moss taken out of it over the weekend so it's all shiny and new again.

I love them! I think they're my new favorite fish.

I have 6 of them alone in my 1.7g Landen 24P. I might add some shrimp to that tank as well.

Glad you like them! I've found that they really color up when they nibble at some of the shrimp food.

Did you order anything else?

Yea, I mean I ordered some red rilis from Rachael as well, but that was back in May.

I might be placing another order, but I'll probably wait to October. She is speaking at my aquatic gardeners club's roundtable, so if I wait till then I can just get them from her directly and not pay shipping.

This is a 2.5g temporary setup. Currently home to an impulse-purchase female betta who will be moving to my 16g. It will eventually be a shrimp only tank after I decide on plants and what type of shrimp.

Is your substrate just regular sand? I'm loving it. Very clean and crisp looking!

Thanks! It's just PetCo aquarium sand that I grabbed when I got the betta and tank. All my other tanks have dark substrate so this is a new direction for me.

5g kit from Aqua Culture $20 something from Walmart. Replaced the filter pad with a length of knee high stocking stuffed with charcoal, slices of Fluval filter floss and a handful of Fluval ceramic filter media. The base intake is covered with the toe of a black stocking to keep any fry from being mercilessly shredded by the impeller. Low tech, low cost but results are difficult to argue! Black knee high hosiery is cheap, easy to clean and acts as a feeding mat in time. ?The striped ones are the caridinas bees, the RCS and dream blues will be separated as soon as the tank pictured cycles again. Overdosed ferts, so my blues, bees and mystery snail had to move in with the six RCS in my fiancées 5g.

Really nice tank!

Other than tigers I've yet to venture beyond Neos. What's you pH with the bees?

I keep my pH around 7 (not too fussed, TBH). If it gets too dark green on the API test, I add alder cones. I don't test more than once every few days unless I see someone acting oddly.

I've pruned mine and the skull has been taken out so I may add a new image shortly but here it was pre-prune.

The Spec 5 is now shrimp only and has been moved to my desk. Really enjoy watching them!
