Is it normal for snails to struggle with sand? I added 2 assassin snails to combat my pond snail infestation. One seems to do fine but the other is always burying itself

Assassin snails tend to bury themselves in the substrate and lie in wait ready to Ambush unsuspecting prey. There's probably other reasons they bury themselves like many other snail.

It's normal behaviour.
