Question What should I put in micro-tank?

I have a planted fresh water one gallon aquarium that I am wanting to put an invertebrate in for my husband. I have never had an invert before. He wants a crab, but I read they are brackish water and need land. Snails are also not an option - he thinks they're boring. What would be a good beginner invert that stays small and is interesting? Is there a small crab that's not brackish? The aquarium is cycled very nicely and the water here tends to run a little hard. Thanks for your help!

There are thai micro crabs. But they really are MICRO. And they don't live long. What about red cherry shrimp?

Talking Thanks!

Thanks for everyone's advice and suggestions. We actually decided to snag a little crayfish from the lake Since he'll be the only occupant I'm not worried about disease and such and they are cold hardy so I won't need extra equipment. Tally hoo!
