Bringing pond inside --4 mo. update
I don't know if anyone is reading here these days or if everyone is hibernating till spring, but I thought I'd post periodically the results of my first year of having my fish pond inside for the winter (see 2 mo. update below). My water hyacinths and all my larger water lettuce have all died; the smaller water lettuce seems OK. I also seem to have lost all my mare's tale after it got too leggy and broke up. The submerged plants are providing cover for the baby fish and the other plants --dwarf papyrus, taro and water iris-- all seem to be doing alright. The iris lost all of its original foliage and the same amount of new foliage is about half grown. I cut the water lily way back when I brought the pond in but it seems to be sending out leaves (I have the heater set to 76º) though not as many as in summer and not at surface level. The fish continue to be active and spawn; I have no idea how many I have but luckily most of the fry don't make it. I got 3 Indian flame barbs which are bright orange to provide some relief from all the black. They get along well with the giant danios and provide some color and interest to the tank. The fish really enjoy eating all the crickets and mealworms that don't survive long enough to feed to my geckos.
I'll update again in another 2 months.
