Maybe new lighting, florescents, and a cannister filter. Run the cannister with the sump til it get's cycled, maybe a couple weeks, then remove the sump. Some good cannisters are the Rena Filstar XP3, Cascade 1000, and Fluval 404. I'm partial to the XP3 myself, as I have one and it's been a great filter so far, and very easy maintenance.

Lonewolfblue has some good suggestions.

Keep in mind that just about every tank will have evaporation. A combination of water changes and periodic topping off will combat that. In addition, I am not sure how hot your pendant light gets, but a flourescent light strip may give off less heat and cause less evaporation.

Have to agree with the others. Unless you want to try a SW setup, your entire system is really non-functional.

The pendant lighting is essentially not needed and is eating up your water, plus electric bill. Regular flourescent lighting is all you need for the fish. Some rocks/caves/fake plants may also help to make the Flowehorn seem more active.

I would clean your sump as well. Atleast get some of the gunk out of it. You also have a buildup of anerobic bacteria in your sand (noticeable with the black sand) that comes from a lack of maintence. A protein skimmer is useless on a freshwater tank.

This is an extremely nice set up for a saltwater tank, but all of it is just way overkill for a freshwater tank.

My reccomendations: Get a new flourescent light fixture that lights the entire tank. Add some decotrations for the fish to feel more comfy in. Get an Aqua Clear 110 HOB Filter or XP Canister for your tank, instead of relying on the sump.

I have never had a reef ready tank, so don't know how possible this is to do.
