how many gph's should a pump be for a pond?
is it 1x 2x 3x or 10x?

the minimum for the water volume is 1/2 the ponds volume an hour for filtration, anything after that would be purely for decorative purposes such as a water fall or fountian. If you have a waterfall take into account the height you will be pumping it as it wil decrease your flow.

I prefer an optimum 2 water changes over 3 hours. Too fast on the pump =not enough biological filtration in the filter. You should also be guided by your U.V. if you have one . I have a 30watt on my 4500 imp gall pond and it only works at 2000 gall per hour max.
Emptying filter rates should also be taken into consideration if you have gravitation filters. regards
