Pond Kits

I am "pond-ering" putting a small pond in my herb garden/sitting area. I was considering the pond kits that are sold like at Sams Club, Lowes etc.
They make it look oh-so-simple, but I have been in aquaria long enough to know that nothing is ever as simple as it says on the box. What should I be looking for as far as filtration etc when I am browsing? Please give me some pointers so I dont end up buying something I am unable to make use of.
Thanks.

Check some of the old threads for pointers. I started with a pond kit, and it worked pretty well for me. I know thefishstore sells them too, perhaps you could get a deal.

Hara, Kits from Lowes and Home Depot, etc, are nice, if and only if you dont want fish. In my honest opinion, I like them for small fountain kits. BUT, if you really want to enjoy the full wonders of water-gardening, you will want to put a little more money into it, and get alot out of it in return. I would recommend looking around your local landscaping stores, etc. I HATE mainstream. They make it all too easy. And you are correct in saying that nothing is ever easy. However, the ends justify the means in this case. And the amount of money that you may put into it now will pay off even more in the future as you sit down at the patio enjoying the soothing sound of water trickling down the stream, while you sip your tea and read your evening paper. It really is an awesome thing.
