Pump upgrade!

Well my old Cal pump went up so I had to get a new one. The old pump actually still pumped, but it was triggering the GFI on the electrical outlet. Therefore, it was leaking voltage, and was unsafe. Gotta love the GFI, kept me from an electrical disaster.

Any way, my old pump was a Cal Pump, rated at 2400 gph. It ran my filter, waterfall, and stream quite well, but I decided on a little more oompph! So I upgraded to a Cal PW3000, 3000gph. I was bit afraid that it would be too powerful, but decided to chance it anyway. I'm sure glad I did. Got it last evening, installed it this morning. That sucka CRANKS!!! My waterfall was good before, but it's awesome now. My nieghbor loves my pond, he came out and was highly impressed. 3000 gph is perfect for me. Any more and I think my system would be overflowing somewhere, but this just makes a really nice falls. I prolly won't put any pics up till late spring, but I'm really happy with it!

Cal pumps are the best, until they go bad. Just a bit of a warning corvus, hang on to the receipt, AND the one-year warranty that came in the pump box. Last year alone, I had close to 30 people who brought in their pumps needing either fixed impellers, or an entire new unit. Just keep an eye on it, and I DEFINETLY want to see those pics Its gonna be cool from the sound of it!

Ohh yeah, one more thing..... do you have a pumpsock? I would advise getting one with this perticular pump. It seems to help cool it down, which in turn extends the pump life. I have had great success with this, with minimal cleaning. Just a suggestion.

Don't have the pumpsock yet, but will get one soon, no doubt. I'll also hold on to the paperwork, in case the warranty is needed. Hope not, my last pump lasted 5 or 6 years, not sure which. I think the fact that I learned how to clean the pump out early on, and cleaned it often, helped very much in having it last as long as it did. Thanks for the tips Keegan, much appreciated.

Yes, it helps that you have alot of good experience with cleaning the pump. Most people think that you can just sit them in the water and forget them. And in reality this isnt true. I hope all works out well for ya!

Basically a big bag that goes over your whole pump, made of material that water can pass through easily, but algae, gunk, leaves, and snails cannot. you have to clean the pump far less frequently if you use one. This is all theory to me, I've never used one before, but Keegan has, and highly recommends using one, so I will get one soon.
