Splash!!!

Well it finally happened.

I work from home 3 days a week. Last week one day it was very nice outside and I went out to play with my dog during lunch break. While I was outside I look at the pond for a few minutes, wishing for spring. Unfortunately, I notice a dead fish floating in the water, dang it, it was my bluegill I put in there last summer. Of course I have to remove the corpse, cannot leave it in there to foul the water. It's winter, all my nets and stuff are in the house, and besides, it's close enough to the edge for me to grab it by hand (or so I thought). I go to grab it, and whoa... losing balance... teeter, totter... try to regain... nope, not working.... SPLASH!!!. Yep, I finally fell in my pond!

That water was COLD!!!

Nothing to be done about it but laugh at myself and go take a hot shower.

Oh yeah, if dogs could laugh, I swear Dudley was laughing at me!

At least you have liquid water to splash in. Also, do you have any bluegill agression problems?

The blugill was tiny when I put him in there last summer, under 2 inches. So I didn't have any problems with him, but when he got big it may have been a problem, can't say for sure. I plan on netting a few more little 'gills this spring and putting them in the pond, will let you know how that goes. I put in 6-8 Golden Shiners (a type of minnow) in there at the same time, they are doing great and mingle with the goldfish quite nicely.

that's too funny! I am sure when I eventually have a pond, I will fall in - I am clumsy like that

I try not to get in my pond in the winter though I have nearly had the same experience this week with repotting all my lilies. Glad to hear you didn't hurt yourself.

In the summer though. AH!! I have a mini fish load & I love to cool off in there.

I've been in on purpose many times for maintenance purposes. The amazing thing is that it took this long for me to fall in. I've had it I think 8 years now, and I'm a first-class klutz. Add that to the fact that there is a certain amount of alcohol consumption in the backyard every summer , and it's a near-miracle that I haven't fallen in before. :P

I wish I had a video of it though, the teetering back and forth trying to catch my balance must have looked hilarious!
