Tips to a successful spring startup
Well ladies and gentlemen, it is that time of the year. When the water gardeners' eyes light up with excitement, and we begin to PONDer a new beginning for our mini ecosystem. Yes, start cleaning out the bottom, feeding those fish spring food, and get that pump running. BUT WAIT!!!! Don't do ANY of this until it is at least 60 degrees constantly outside. I know you want to get outside to start it up. But PATIENCE is a virtue. Be sure you had that heater running all winter, or at least a hole in the ice, because if you didnt, you just may have a big mess on your hands! I believe something will be published in next months newsletter, and this whole startup thing will be covered. Along with new products/improvements for 2004. SO GET READY SPRING, here we come!!!!

We had one snow storm this year....we got less than 5 inches and it was gone by 4pm. I could literally count the days on one hand that had a high in the 30's. Guess thats the good thing about living in **** (other wise known as Texas)...a really looooong pond season!

You may want to sign up for this newsletter. Next month, I plan on writing an article for the paper, highlighting water gardens and installation. It will be a series, so to speak, but I would def. Recommend signing up.

My water temp is 62F and the fish are active, so I've started feeding their regular food once every couple of days. . . did a water change and cleaned the crud out of the bottom last Saturday, and after that, they really got frisky. One of my favorite pond suppliers has gotten some floating plants in, so I think I'll have to head down there this weekend. I'm in central Arkansas, gardening zone 7b.

I'm jealous, Stoney! I'm like on the line of zones 6-7, but water temps are still low 50s. 2-3 more weeks here before I can get going.
