Wal-Mart MURDERERS -poll

Hey, I just want to say how disgusted i am with wal-mart's fish dept. Over half their fish are dead all the time. The tanks are covered with algea and there are usually more fish stuck to the filter than there are alive. Vote so i can see what others and you think so i know i am not alone in the battle. Hopefully they might hire better staff that accually have knowledge about fish if you complain. I was in there and they had oscars in with guppies. and there was only one guppy still alive but he looked like he might have already been in one of their mouths.

Well WalMart doesnt sell koi and comets at our WalMart (And Ours is in the top 10 biggest). They dont sell lilies or anything either.

The last time I was there there tanks looked really good, very clean, no dead fish. Maybe it does depend on the staff.

I've gotten several fish from my local walmart and never had a problem. I do see a dead fish every once in a while, but not to the point where it concerns me. I have heard others complaining as you have, however. I believe the policies and practices are different by store. You may want to file a complaint with the local manager.

yes i guess it would depend on staff. It also depends on the days they clean the tanks out. You may have gone and the workers may have taken the dead fish out and cleaned the tanks but in canada they do leave the tanks uncleaned nfor a long time. And i guess we get differant types of fish in canada. Right now there is a 5 gallon tank of like 40, 2 inch koi with fin rot. As well they have fancy golfish and feeder goldfish. I hate to see oscars and cichlids there thought.

When I used to have a freshwater tank, walmart is the place where I got ALL my fish at. If I still had a freshwater tank I would use this walmart a lot faster (The tanks look so nice) than the old one.

I really liked their fruit tetras.

I know, wal-mart has good prices and if you get your fish from the cleaner tanks you should not have a problem with their health. I buy my betta fish from there

Do you realize that 'fruit tetras' are artificially dyed that color, using an acid bath, and that it cuts the fish's lifespan in half...assuming the fish survives the process?

For the record, I've never been to a Wal Mart that had remotely healthy looking fish. I only buy from one of two trusted [acronym:330bb8cd99="Local Fish Store"]LFS[/acronym:330bb8cd99]'s.
