Want a new pond--where to begin?
ok in coming months we are moving into a house and I would like to have a backyard pond. What all is needed for a pond ? Can I use a tupperware (100 gallon or so) container? I tried searching around here, but there was no "Article" for a perfect pond-newbie like me. (I have a fair experience with tropical tanks).
Please point me in the right direction

The type of goldfish will be determined by the size of the pond. If your looking at small pre-formed ponds which are easy to set up and good for a beginner, commons or comets would be appropriate. As a general rule for them, 30 gallons per fish. Koi require very large ponds and aren't as cold tolerant. You will need a filter. I recommend an external pressurized cannister with a built in UV sterilizer. This type will require the least maintenance. It can be partially submerged in the ground to hide. I use a Cyprio Bioforce with UV. If your pond in winter has a chance of freezing over you will need a de-icer. I recommend Farm Innovators floating Ice-Chaser with thermocube to keep electric bills lower.Small floating plants that cover the surface along with the UV sterilizer will control problem algae. When the cooler seasons arrive wheat germ should be fed..Easily digestible, it strenghtens the fish for winter. Goldfish metabolism slows in winter and they cannot digest food. When temps reach 50 degrees, fish should not be fed until spring.
