water garden plants
I finished my pond project about 10 pm last night...got home from walmart with some plants and had to plant them
Anyway, I also picked up some canna lilly cormes. so here is stupid question number 1: should i plant these in dirt and wait for them to be up before placing them in the pond, or should I plant them in the pot and sink the pot now? My terra firma only experience tells me if i were to put them in the pond, they would rot...is this so? Here is a link to my pond progress pics if anyone cares to see http://www.coralclub.org/viewtopic.php?p=1072#1072 thanks for the help. |

Nice looking pond, how many gallons? My only complaint is that I think it is time to buy a new hammer.

I have never grown Canna but I believe your instincts are correct. Plant them in dirt, wait for them to be about 6 inches tall, then put them in the pond.
Sorry I never said anything regarding pond kits, but my ponds are in ground with liners, all parts bought separately so I didn't really feel qualified. Anyway, your project looks good, best of luck with it. I've never had an indoor pond, let us know how that works out. |

I tested the theory late tuesday night, I planted a few in a pot and put the pot in the pond. Yesterday I saw a green sprout, by last night it was at water level, this morning we actually have a rolled up leaf! I planted 4 pots in total and will let you know what comes of it.
This is so much fun! |

Did you put them all in the pond, or only some of them? Just curious about what the diff might be for sprouting/growth rate between submerged vs. terrestrial. Also, how deep in the pond (pond measuring is from water surface to top of pot, no idea if you know that or not).
Just had an idea, will pm you, Hara. |
