September 2014 Freshwater POTM

September 2014 Freshwater Picture of the Month Contest
-Hosted by Kirrie

CONTEST THEME "Favorite Fish"

This month's theme is your "favorite fish"! Post a picture of your favorite fish or invert. It could be a photo of your favorite type of fish that you own, or just a photo of one of your favorite fish. For example, my favorite type of fish that I own are my rummy nose tetras, but my favorite fish is my first betta, Reagan. I hope that makes sense You should also include why that fish is your favorite.

Please post your photo for the September 2014 Freshwater POTM contest.

Photos must be uploaded to your photo album and the bbcode link posted in the thread. A brief description of your photo may be included. Albums are found in your profile in the right hand column. If you need assistance uploading to an album, please PM an Aquarium Advice site team member (mod/admin), and they can walk you through it. Once uploaded, you can link directly in the contest thread here using IMG tags.

One photo per member per month allowed, and the photo MUST be taken by you.

I will select the winner of the contest based on the quality of the photograph and how closely it relates to the theme this month . The winner will copy and paste this section to a new thread, where they will decide the theme of next months contest (please only submit thread once, it has to be approved by a staff member before it shows up). Submissions will be accepted until the last day of the month. The winner will be announced on the first day of the next month. The new contest thread should be created no later than the 3rd day of the new month. I will send a PM to the winner, letting them know that they have won, along with a post in this thread. I will also send a PM to an admin or moderator, so that they can add the POTM Badge to your account. Good luck!

This is one of my 5 rummynose tetras:

They are my favorite species of fish (my oto is my favorite one fish, but my rummys are my favorite species, if that makes sense), because they are really the only one that I've kept that has been hardy and peaceful. I've been through:

Ram - not hardy
Tiger barbs - not peaceful
Neon tetras - not hardy
Bloodfin tetras - not super peaceful or super hardy
Lamp eye tetras - not super hardy (although still great)
etc., etc. Even most of the otos that I've gotten have died.

So yeah these little guys are my favorites.

My favorite fish is my spotted raphael catfish. He was given to me for free and I just found out what kind of catfish it was. It's cool because it "talks" or croaks when you take it out of the water.

This is definitely my favorite fish and also one of my favorite pictures.

This little guy used to sit on my desk so I got to observe him more than most. He and his female friend also produced numerous offspring that I was able to spread to other Apisto enthusiasts.

Meet "Ms. Blue". She is a blue crawfish, with a lot of personality, dreams, and determination. She enjoys cliff jumping by climbing the plants and jumping of while clapping her claws repeatedly in hopes of catching a fish. Also, she is an avid sprinter and competes by starting at one end of the tank and running as fast as she can to the other end, again while clapping her claws repeatedly attempting to catch a fish. Clearly she is a dreamer with aspirations of nabbing a live fish. To date, she has never caught one, yet she remains very determined and clearly hopeful.
