Before I buy anything does any of the algae stop stuff work? If not how do you get rid of it?

What I would also try before adding chemicals is a UV unit which kills floating algae (green water) and do not harm beneficial bacteria which reside on surfaces. My water went so green I couldnt see the fish (with appropiate filtration and feeding), I added a 50% shade through a variety of floating plants and water cleared within a week and a half. If you have fish, you have to make sure they have lots of constant aeration because the decaying algea will use up oxygen in the water.
I have also seen little barley bales that you float in the water that help prevent algea growth for months at at time. I haven't tried it yet, but I intend to.
