Best chemical media

I have a 65 gal overstocked goldfish tank with 7 three inch fancies. I have a fluval g6 filter which works very well. It was time to change the carbon cartridge. I can fill the chemical media cartridge with whatever I want. Suggestions please.

I personally think that carbon is not necessary in an aquarium, but this is a debatable topic. I would use things like sponges/foam or bio media in the place of carbon. I've also heard good things about something called Seachem Purigen.
