Alright, with fall quickly approaching and winter shortly following, I have a curious question. This is my first winter with hibernating goldfish. I had the tank filled last winter and it did not freeze solid, not even close.

My question is, do the fish need aeration once the water is consistently cold enough that they are in full blown hibernation mode ie almost zero metabolism?

You don't want the pond frozen over. You need ideally I dinner plate section open for gas exchange.
